The South Carolina Highway Patrol said Imhotep Osiris Norman, 26, was driving 67 mph in a 40 mph zone around 10:20 p.m. Friday, WSPA reported.

Troopers started a chase with Norman. They noticed sparks coming from the vehicle and alerted fire rescue as they continued pursuit. They also saw Norman throw a bag filled with drugs from the window, WSPA reported.

The chase ended after 4 miles when the car became engulfed in flames and Norman pulled over to the side of the road and started to run.

Firefighters arrived, put out the fire and discovered a small body in the back seat, WSPA reported. The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office identified the child as Xena Rah'Lah Norman.

Imhotep Norman was eventually arrested and charged with homicide by child abuse, according to jail records.
