The baby girl that Starkville, Mississippi, surgeon Dr. Nikki Shoemake-Patterson, gave birth to June 1 has died a week after she was born.

Dr. Shoemake-Patterson died June 1 while in labor. Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt ruled Shoemake died of "natural causes during delivery of a baby."

At the time, the baby girl, Aubrey Caroline Patterson, was alive and at a Jackson, Mississippi, hospital.

WTVA reported that Aubrey died Wednesday, according to an obituary for Dr. Shoemake-Patterson.

"Aubrey Caroline was surrounded by family as she peacefully passed into her mother's arms in heaven," the obituary said.

Shoemake-Patterson and Aubrey Caroline will be buried June 10.
