The USDA Forest Service announced it was waiving fees at campgrounds in the Southern Region to accommodate people displaced by Hurricane Dorian, WLOS reported.
Fees will be waived for campgrounds in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.
People seeking shelter in a Southern Region Forest Service campground should check online or call the park to see if the park is open, and if so, whether space is available, WLOS reported.
When arriving at the campground, people should notify the campground host they are being displaced by the hurricane to have fees waived.
Some campgrounds in North Carolina will be closed because of the weather, including the Croatan National Forest, WLOS reported. Uwharrie National Forest also could be impacted by poor weather, the television station reported.
