An off-duty cop is being hailed as a hero after saving a man's life last week.
New York City Police Department Officer Christian Campoverde was shopping with his family at mall in Queens, when he heard a man mumbling to himself that he wanted to kill himself.
Campoverde realized that something was wrong and followed the man to a balcony, NYPD News reported.
The man had one leg over a railing, when Campoverde started talking to him. He eventually asked the man, "Is it OK if I give you a hug? Do you want a hug?"
That was all that it took to save the unidentified man's life.
He replied yes and was eventually taken by emergency responders to a hospital for an evaluation.
"I just saw somebody who needed help," Campoverde told PIX11.
He had just gone through Crisis Intervention Team training the week before.
