The only thing worse than the sound of the shot clock going off is the awkward silence that happens when the recording for the national anthem fails to play before the season opener.
That's what happened Tuesday night in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, but there was a star waiting to be born on the visiting team's bench.
Kallie Kuhlow has a passion for singing, so she was naturally called upon by her teammates and coach to sing the national anthem before the game after a third attempt to play the song failed.
She told WISC-TV she didn't have time to think about performing because of an adrenaline rush.
"I was praying I remembered the words in the middle of the song, which I did, thankfully," she laughed about it later on.
A video of the performance hasn't surfaced online yet, but Kuhlow has already become a viral sensation, who's received warm words of support and encouragement since the impromptu performance.
"I'm a small-town girl. I don't get a lot of attention usually," she said. "I'm really glad that I got to make such a positive impact on so many people."

Best of all? Kuhlow's team, Clinton High School, won the first game and she was asked to sing the national anthem again before the school's home opener Thursday.
