A woman in Hawaii is lucky to be alive after her truck was sucked into a giant sinkhole while she was still inside.
"I really didn't think of anything. Just oh, my God, why is this happening to me. I climbed to the window and just tried to climb out of the hole, and I couldn't get out." (Via WWL-TV)
Velma Deluz says she was headed to work on the Big Island when the road suddenly shifted and sucked her vehicle straight down into the asphalt. (Via WRC-TV)
Deluz sustained minor rib injuries from the terrifying incident, but is otherwise okay. She says she’s thankful to still be alive.
According to authorities, the sinkhole formed after major rainstorms pummeled the area all weekend. (Via WCCO)
NBC reports the rain continued to fall through Monday, accumulating a Dec. 30 record of 5.51 inches.
Crews are now working to repair the road and get traffic flowing normally as soon as possible.
