Grieving parents plead for help after dead son’s ashes stolen

According to KRQE in Albuquerque, New Mexico, aerospace engineer Kyle Hunt, 32, of Tehachapi, California, died in a hiking accident last month. His parents, Steven and Kathy, were headed back to their Kansas home with his car and other belongings Feb. 29 when they stopped at a Hampton Inn in Albuquerque. There, someone broke into Kyle's car and made off with a box containing his ashes, as well as his backpack and a memorial board, the couple said.

"How could they take those things?" Kathy told KRQE. "They aren't of any value to anybody but us. To us they're priceless. They're our way to heal from a horrible loss."

The grieving parents are begging the community to help recover Kyle's remains and hope the thief returns the ashes to them.

“We ask the people of Albuquerque to help us find our son so we can take him home,” Kathy said.
