It can be a long night for sick children in the hospital, but at one Rhode Island medical facility, young patients are treated to a nightly light show that brightens their spirits.

"Good Night Lights" at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence started six years ago and was inspired by resident cartoonist, Steve Brosnihan, according to The Associated Press.

Businesses and individuals flash lights in the direction of the hospital, where up to dozen kids enjoy a light show nightly. The hospital is ideally situated, with an open harbor view and a clear view of the downtown skyline.

One patient, Olivia Stephenson, 13, blinked a flashlight from her hospital room window, in a demonstration of gratitude for the kindness of strangers.
