California police are investigating the assault of a 10-year-old Girl Scout outside a Walmart as she and her fellow scouts were selling cookies Saturday afternoon.

Redding police officials said the girls and their parents were selling cookies just before 1 p.m. when the alleged victim was approached by a man.

"After a very brief interaction, the male inappropriately touched the juvenile female," a police department news release said. "The male quickly walked off after the incident."

Investigators described the man as a Hispanic male between 50 and 60 years old, with a medium build and gray hair and beard. He was wearing a black and gray jacket and jeans.

Redding police officers and California Highway Patrol officers searched for the man but were not able to locate him.

The investigation into the incident continues, the news release said.
