A piece of a shoe display rack impaled the eye of a girl shopping at an Ohio mall Sunday afternoon.

Medics from the Miami Valley Fire District were called around 4:45 p.m. to the Wet Seal shop inside the Dayton Mall in southwest Ohio.

The girl's eye was injured by a 7-inch hook for hanging shoes, said Lt. Ray Eaton.

"She tripped and fell into one of those," he said.

The object went 2 or 3 inches into the girl's eye, he said.

The girl, whose name and age was not released, was taken to Dayton Children's Hospital, Eaton said. There is no word on her condition, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Wet Seal is a specialty retailer of fashionable and contemporary apparel and accessories, according to the store's page on the Dayton Mall website.
