Authorities in Indiana are investigating after a boating incident left an 8-year-old girl dead Sunday, according to multiple reports.

The girl was boating with her father and friends Sunday evening on Monroe Lake when she was struck by the propeller of a boat, Indiana Conservation Officer Lt. Angela Goldman told The Indianapolis Star. She was taken to IU Health Bloomington, where she was pronounced dead, The Republic reported.

She was identified by the Monroe County Coroner as Callee Crones-Arias, of Martinsville, according to WRTV-TV.

The circumstances leading up to the incident remained unclear Wednesday. WXIN reported the girl was wearing a life jacket.

Authorities continue to investigate.
