He may not have gotten to dance, but he did get to march.
Christian Brothers High School Senior Lance Sanderson says he was told by school administrators he couldn’t bring a boy from another school as his date to the homecoming dance.
Instead, Sanderson spent the day marching alongside his fellow CBHS alumni at the Mid-South Pride Parade on Saturday.
"I'm very excited, I think hopefully this results in some positive conversation, positive change for the school and schools like it across the country,” Sanderson said.
Sanderson started an online petition to get his school to let him take his date of choice. The petition has more than 23,000 signatures, with support from big names like TV Producer Shonda Rhimes. Despite that, Sanderson did not attend the CBHS homecoming dance with his date on Saturday night.
