According to a statement released Sunday afternoon, four inmates have died and three are still in the hospital in stable condition after an incident at a Green Country correctional facility in Cushing.
Just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday, facility staff at the Cimarron Correctional Facility quelled an inmate disturbance they say lasted only two minutes.
Officials say it was contained to a single housing pod and staff worked to secure the housing area for approximately 40 minutes.
Sunday, authorities told FOX23 that the Cushing facility is still on lockdown status, which means inmates are confined to their housing areas, allowing facility management and law enforcement the opportunity to investigate the incident and conduct a welfare check on all offenders housed at the facility.
At this time officials have not released the four names of the inmates who died or the three inmates who are injured in the hospital from the inmate on inmate altercation. No staff members were injured in the incident.
The CCA is working closely with officials from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General and will cooperate fully with its ongoing investigation.
Cimarron Correctional Facility officials ensured us more details will be provided as soon as they are available.
