Florida police car set on fire; note referencing Black Lives matter left nearby
By WFTV-Orlando
July 18, 2016In an act possibly connected to the Black Lives Matter movement, an empty Daytona Beach police cruiser was set on fire early Sunday morning.
Officers were called around 2:30 a.m. for reports of a vehicle fire.
They found a marked Daytona Beach police car fully engulfed in flames.
A note apparently left by the arsonist was found nearby.
Investigators said the note referenced the recent officer-involved shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile and included an obscenity directed at police officers.
Investigators said the vehicle had been left at the location as a “ghost car.”
Police said it appeared to be a case of arson. The State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate.
