A Florida woman was arrested after her 2-year-old child died after being left alone in a car for more than eight hours, investigators said.
According to Escambia County Sheriff's Office deputies Jessica Monell, 36, came home around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, went inside her apartment unit and fell asleep, leaving her 2-year-old child in the car, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
She awoke around 4 p.m.
"She got home and went inside to sleep. She forgot her kid was left in the car," Maj. Andrew Hobbs spokesman with Escambia County Sheriff's Office told the News Journal. "The poor child had to sit in the car for over eight hours in the heat."
Monell was arrested and charged with homicide-neglect manslaughter, neglect of a child, three counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug equipment, according to jail records.
