The mayor of a Florida city was carjacked as he stood outside a friend's home early Saturday morning, according to the Sanford Police Department.
Three men approached Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett as he stood in front of a friend's home on Chapman Avenue around 2:20 a.m. Two of the men were armed. They stole the keys to his Mercedes Benz and his wallet, police said.
The men fled the scene in the mayor's car.
Police apprehended two suspects in the case, who they identified as Damarcus Paige, 17, and Jermine Horne, 18. The third man involved in the attack, who police have not identified, has not been apprehended.
"Being a victim of a crime is unnerving, yet it was reassuring to witness both speed and diligence from the Sanford Police Department," Triplett said in a news release.
Paige and Horne were charged with carjacking with a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Horne is also facing a contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge.
