Investigators in Florida believe a father killed his toddler daughter then himself in Sarasota last week, authorities said.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, deputies found Miguel Angel Castillo-Hernandez, 34, and his 2-year-old daughter unresponsive in the woods after learning Friday evening that he had sent the girl's mother text messages saying the child might be dead.

First responders performed CPR on the pair but could not revive them, the Sheriff's Office said in a Saturday news release. Authorities believe both died from asphyxiation.

"There are no known additional suspects or victims involved in this incident," the news release said. "As such, detectives believe both deaths are the result of a murder-suicide."
