A Florida man accused of exposing himself to people on Miami Beach attempted to escape custody by diving into the ocean, police say.

The man, identified as Adacia Howard Douglas, was seen "doing inappropriate things" and exposing himself to beachgoers on Miami Beach on Sunday, WTVJ reports. According to a witness, he exposed himself to several adults and two children.

"(The police) took him off the beach and the next thing I know, I look over and he was running into the water with his pants coming down," witness Tyler Morin told WTVJ. "He swam out and the helicopters and everyone was running after him."

Police said the man “swam the length of 11 blocks” before officers reached him. He was arrested and faces charges of loitering, prowling and battery on a law enforcement officer.
