According to police reports, the baby’s mother was hospitalized for more than 4 weeks while pregnant, but refused prenatal care. She was released on June 29 and gave birth to her son about a week later, according to NBC Miami.

The  medical examiner confirms the baby was born nine weeks premature and "died with flakka in his system," NBC Miami reports. He was only 3 pounds and 2 ounces.

"It's beyond comprehension. It's unbelievable," Dr. Nabil El Sanadi, CEO of North Broward Hospital District, said to NBC Miami. "To have a mom that's pregnant actually use the drug is illogical, it's negligent, it's senseless. It's a tragedy."
