A first date ended with a man dead after the woman he'd been on a date with ran him over with his own truck.

The incident happened Sunday in Pierce County, about 45 minutes south of Seattle. The man and woman, who had known each other only a few hours, were drinking heavily and went to visit one of the man's friends, Pierce County Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer said.

The woman asked the friend, who is a tattoo artist, to tattoo her chest. She and that second man became intimate when she was getting the tattoo, which led to an argument with the first man, Troyer said. The woman allegedly punched her date, and deputies said he slapped her.

The woman fled the house, in the 600 block of Cornwall Road, wearing only a T-shirt and started her date's truck. The date then went outside after her.

That man, identified as Leon Shaw, 53, was found dead in the driveway by his friend. He had been run over.

The woman crashed the truck about a quarter-mile away and was trapped inside when medics arrived, Troyer said. It's not clear if the man was run over accidentally or intentionally. The woman remains hospitalized in critical condition. She had not been interviewed or charged with a crime.

Troyer said the investigation is ongoing and that detectives took blood draws from the dead man and the woman to test for drugs or alcohol.
