Keenan Pearson is a husband and father of two. He met Megan Hansen after the two of them slid off a highway early Oct. 6.

As they were on the side of the road, a third car lost control and came barreling toward them. Pearson didn’t hesitate to push Hansen out of the way.

"I was so grateful that it was him rather than someone else that maybe would have been in shock," Hansen told KSTU.

The impact injured both of Pearson’s legs. One of them had to be amputated.

“He risked his life for me, absolutely. I’m a complete stranger, and he put himself first,” Hansen said.

Pearson said that while the accident was devastating, he would do it again in a heartbeat if it meant saving someone else’s life.

"If I can pick someone to push out of the way of a car, it would definitely be you," Pearson told KSTU.

The two plan to stay in touch.

“I think we were brought into each other’s lives for a reason, and I’m super excited to have a relationship with you guys,” Hansen told Pearson.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for medical costs. If you would like to donate, click here.

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
