"The door was unlocked already," witness Brice Hager said. "We were able to get in there and check on the baby."

KOAT reported that the father, named Isaac Chacon, left the baby in the car while he donated plasma.

Chacon told police that the baby was in the car with a friend, and he was only gone for 15 minutes.

Albuquerque police officer Simon Drobik said the story is not believed by police.

"We don't believe there was anybody there." Drobik said. "We believe that Mr. Chacon went inside the plasma center, left that child unattended for a long period of time."

KRQE reported that the infant was unbuckled and foaming at the mouth. Two windows were cracked slightly open.

The baby was rushed to the hospital with a temperature over 101 degrees and treated for dehydration and a fever. He is expected to be OK.

The baby is currently with his mother, who said she is happy her son is OK.

Chacon is charged with child abuse and endangerment. He is also facing a drug charge, because he had heroin on him when he was arrested.
