UPDATE: The viral video was uploaded to a fake profile of Lil Bibby, according to the Chicago rapper's publicist.
A Facebook video falsely claiming to showing Sandra Bland's treatment by police went viral last night.
The video, partially captioned "New Video Footage of #SandraBland" was uploaded late Thursday night to Facebook by a profile pretending to be Chicago rapper Lil Bibby.
"He is very popular in the social media world," but that is not one of Lil Bibby's social media profiles, according to Tresa Sanders. "I would not want him to be wrongly pointed to as a source of information."
The video allegedly showed Bland being removed from a police car with her hands and feet bound. The woman, responsive, is then dragged off camera by one officer.
Bland, a 28-year-old black woman, was found dead in her jail cell three days afters she was arrested July 10 during a questionable traffic stop in Texas. (The officer in that arrest was subsequently suspended for violating procedure.)
The Facebook video originally claimed to depict Bland's treatment by officers in the hours after her arrest. But the police car in the footage is labeled "Tampa Police" on the trunk, and Bland was held in Waller County jail in Hempstead, Texas.
Bland's autopsy also made no mention of lacerations on her ankles.
Two hours after being uploaded, according to the video's edit history, the caption was modified to add, "Huston (sic) TX Has Old Tampa FL Squad Cars They Us for Local Routes Thats Why it says Tampa!!!!!!!"
The caption was edited again early Friday to read, "THIS IS NOT #SANDRABLAND," but video had already received over five million views and over 250,000 shares.
Authorities maintain that Bland hung herself in her cell, and have pointed to evidence suggesting a history of depression and a prior suicide attempt. Her autopsy revealed no injuries that would suggest she was killed by someone else, Waller County prosecutor Warren Diepraam said earlier this week
Bland's family and friends have challenged this story, and said she was not despondent and was looking forward to starting a new job at her alma mater, Prairie View A&M University.
Texas Rangers and the FBI are investigating.
