A Nebraska mom, kept alive on life support for two months, has delivered a baby girl, the first of its kind in the U.S. in more than 15 years.
NBC News reports Karla Perez alive for 54 days to give her baby time to develop.
In February, Perez collapsed after complaining of severe headaches. Doctors later found out she had a brain bleed. Her baby daughter was only 22 weeks along, too young to survive.
So doctors at Methodist Women's Hospital took what officials said "a giant leap of faith," and kept Perez's body alive for 54 days, giving the baby, named Angel a chance of life.
Angel was successfully delivered on April 4 and weighed only 2 pounds, 12.6 ounces, NBC News reported.

Angel is in an incubator and is being fed through a tube, but the doctors said they are "cautiously optimistic" that Angel will be ok.
Perez passed away on April 6, the hospital said in a press release.
