Emoji are everywhere. And inevitably, some get used more than others.

According to SwiftKey, who makes custom smartphone keyboards, Americans use the following emoji categories more than anyone else: skulls, birthday cake, fire, technology, LGBT, meat, and female emoji.

Canada, oddly enough, leads the way in the use of the gun and poop emoji.

The most used emoji categories overall: happy faces, sad faces, hearts, hand gestures, and romantic. The least popular: Reading materials.

"Pizza was one of the most frequently used [emojis] in the U.S., as well as the chicken drumstick ... and I think it shows you that, versus other nations, you guys have particular food habits," SwiftKey's chief marketing officer Joe Braidwood told NPR.

And in a move that should surprise nobody, Russia led the way in using emoji related to cold weather.
