Several Brevard County Sheriff's Office deputies had their lunch cut short at a nearby restaurant in Melbourne, Florida, when they were notified by management that several ducklings had fallen into a storm drain.
The deputies were breaking after a training session.
Deputy Jared Conaway, Deputy Fred Mendiola, Deputy Chad Crawford, and Deputy Daniel Aponte worked together to try to save the ducklings.
The deputies removed the storm drain and used dog leashes and other make-shift devices to scoop the ducklings from the drain area.
It took about 40 minutes to rescue the five ducklings.
The mother duck was standing vigilant along with her other ducklings that had not fallen into the storm drain.
On the Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Sheriff Wayne Ivey wrote: "Each and every day, the members of our agency do amazing and compassionate things that constantly demonstrate their commitment to protecting everyone and everything in our community. I truly could not be more proud of these deputies for their efforts and compassion."
The rescued ducklings showed no signs of injury as they waddled off following their mother and siblings.
