A man's attempt to explain how guns can be safe if handled properly wound up turning into a lesson on just how dangerous they can be.
According to deputies in Oakland County, Mich., a 36-year-old man was explaining to his girlfriend that his three handguns were safe when not loaded.
To prove his point, investigators say he placed one of the guns he thought was empty against his head and pulled the trigger. It discharged and killed him.
The Detroit Free Press reports that despite attempts by the girlfriend to save him by performing CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's girlfriend says he had been drinking all day before the deadly accident.
Authorities say three children, ages 7, 10, and 12, were home at the time but didn’t witness the shooting and were not hurt.
