Daylight saving time ends this Sunday at 2 a.m., meaning it’s time to set your clocks back one hour.

That means we get an extra hour of sleep, but darkness will fall an hour earlier and the sun will rise earlier.

There is debate every year about whether we should continue to fall back and spring forward.

The Capital Weather Gang wrote about a Brookings Institution study last year that found making daylight saving time permanent would help prevent crime that occurs in the evening hours.

According to an article in TIME, daylight saving time started in 1916 as a way to save energy during World War I. But it's more complicated than that, including the thought that Americans getting off work while it was still light out meant they would be more likely to go shopping at night.
