Chessie, a 11-month-old Chesapeake Bay retriever, was hit by a drunken driver in front of his Massachusetts home on Dec. 13. Officers with the Orange Police Department saw it happen.

They were able to arrest the driver, who was later charged for the offense.

After being hit, Chessie walked into the woods, and after extensive searches, he could not be found and was presumed to be dead.

But 43 days later, someone spotted Chessie a mile from his home. He had survived more than six weeks in the cold, even with the snow and frigid temperatures in the New England state.

Chessie sustained a badly injured hip and faces months of rehab to get back to normal, but he is finally home in his own bed.

Chessie's owners are seeking funds via a GoFundMe page to pay for medical bills for the dog.
