Officials found a 42-year-old woman dead in the road.

Her dog remained at the crash scene, lying down near the spot of the accident, until relatives of the victim arrived to pick up the dog.

JSO said an apparent semi-truck in the rear parking lot at the Kangaroo Station hit the victim and dragged her to the middle of the road. JSO said it appears the driver may not have known he hit the victim.

The driver is not known and there are no witnesses.

JSO is continuing to investigate.
