An animal rescue group got a call Tuesday that "someone had just buried her and they had a machete," PAWS of Hawaii wrote in a social media post. "So, who knows what was next?"

Group members rushed to the beach and discovered a little dog “incredibly swollen, sunburned and missing 90% of her fur.”

The dog also had sores and cuts on her body.

They named her Leialoha and quickly got her veterinary care.

The dog was placed with a foster family and is now on the mend.

"Initially, she would only leave her kennel to go to the bathroom. Last night, she came out while we had friends over to see what was for dinner and has been liking being under the coffee table. She has a long way to go, but the worst is over," Leialoha's foster family said in a Facebook post.
