Dog calls 911, saves blind owner from house fire

Aug 8, 2015

A service dog is being called a hero after saving her owner’s life by calling 911.

Yolanda uses a specialized telephone and is trained to dial 911.

Her owner is blind, and when Yolanda detected the fire in their Philadelphia home, she alerted authorities.

Firefighters rushed to scene in time to save the woman, who is in her 60s.

While she was being treated for smoke inhalation, the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team dropped off food, toys and treats for Yolanda.

The team is nonprofit organization that works in conjunction with the American Red Cross.

They said this is actually the second time Yolanda has called 911.

Last year her owner fell and was knocked unconscious.
