A crash killed a horse and injured a man Sunday night in Nassau County.
According to reports, Alinda Butz of Jacksonville was driving down Ratliff Road in her Dodge minivan around 8 p.m. when she hit 27-year-old Samuel Granger II, who was riding his horse, Beau. The horse was hit a second time before 9 p.m.
Reggie Popham, a foreman with the Nassau County Road and Bridge Department, said his crews were out searching for the horse Sunday night but didn’t find it.
Action News reporter Russell Colburn spotted the dead horse and reported it to authorities, and the crew came back out to remove the animal. By that time, the horse has been on the road for about 12 hours.
“Usually we respond just as soon as we can,” Popham said. “We try to take care of it as soon as possible.”
“People come up and down this road all the time. People live here. It's crazy that it was 12 hours and nobody found it,” Chariti Sell of Callahan said.
Butz was found at fault for failing to yield, authorities said.
Ganger is being treated for his injuries at UF Health Jacksonville.
