According to Twitter and other breaking news outlets, computer systems for U.S. Customs and Border Protection are down at multiple airports, including Dallas/Fort Worth International, Los Angeles International, JFK International Airport, Boston Logan International and Hartsfield-Jackson International in Atlanta.

Travelers wrote that they are in danger of missing flights. One traveler told "Mashable" at least 1,000 people were waiting in line to use the only functioning kiosk at JFK International.

According to NBC News, the Department of Homeland Security computer system that checks airline passengers against terror watch lists experienced "service disruptions."

More than an hour after the initial disruptions, a senior government official told NBC News that the system was back up.
