Jeff Jackson and Tori Boone thought they might never see some of their most prized possessions again after their home in Lawrenceville was burglarized in March.
“We really wanted the family jewelry back that you can’t replace and can’t put a price on,” Boone said.
Medals earned by Jeff’s grandfather in World War II and Tori’s grandfather’s wedding ring.
Two days after the burglary, Gwinnett County police recovered a stolen car. Inside, they found the medals and wedding ring.
“Because the original report didn’t have any of these items specifically listed, we had no way of tracking them,” said Corporal Michele Pihera with Gwinnett County police.
Pihera said the police report of the burglary simply listed the stolen items in a group as “miscellaneous jewelry,” so police were not able to immediately make the connection.
She said detectives in the department’s gang unit found a name engraved on the back of one of the bracelets. They traced that name and found a relative in New York who ultimately led investigators to Tori and Jeff.
“To get that call last Wednesday night was huge. Yeah. It restores your faith in so many things,” Jackson said.
The couple was reunited with their belongings Monday.
“For those things to stand for what they do and for them to be back as part of us is unreal,” Jackson said.
As for suspects in the crimes, police say they have several leads but are not releasing any names.
