A 1-year-old, 3-year-old and 4-year old were in the car Gower and Officer Cale Hawkins stopped Saturday.

None of the children were in car seats.

Hawkins said he had stopped the driver earlier and knew of the family's financial issues.

Instead of writing a ticket, Gower and Hawkins, along with other officers, bought the family three new car seats, KXAN reported.

All young children are required to be in an age-appropriate car, or booster, seat until the age of 8, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
