A shooting spree in Colorado Springs has left four people dead, including the gunman.

One witness told KRDO: "Fellow was about 3 feet from me here. I guess he was the guy that had all the weapons. And the cop pulled up and said, 'Drop your gun.' ... They started shooting at each other and the bullets went over me, and then all the other cops showed up."

Multiple outlets report the suspect killed one person and started a small fire at a house before traveling through the neighborhood. Police found victims at multiple locations along the shooter's route; three people were killed in all.

Authorities confronted the gunman at a nearby intersection; police say the suspect fired several rounds at officers, who returned fire and killed him.

The officers who fired at the gunman have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with police policy. Authorities have closed several streets around the scene and are further investigating, but believe the immediate threat has passed.
