Ben Carson is threatening to abandon the Republican Party, CNN is reporting.

The news network reported Friday morning that Carson said he would consider leaving the party if a potential candidate deal between Republican leaders becomes reality.

Reports came out earlier that insiders were making deals to decide the party's nominee for president at the Republican National Convention.

The report was published in The Washington Post.

According to an article published Thursday, Republican officials met Monday to discuss the possibility of Donald Trump leading the delegate count and that "the party's establishment must lay the groundwork for a floor fight in which the GOP's mainstream wing could coalesce around an alternative," The Washington Post reported.

Before Monday's meeting, party leaders spoke only of a hypothetical "brokered convention."

Carson said Friday that if the party continues to hold meetings like Monday's event he will consider breaking ties with the GOP.

"If this was the beginning of a plan to subvert the will of the voters and replace it with the will of the political elite, I assure you Donald Trump will not be the only one leaving the party," Carson said.

The RNC had all candidates sign a pledge at the beginning of the race that they would support the eventual Republican nominee.

Despite signing the pledge, Trump tweeted this week that his supporters would follow him if he left the GOP and ran as an independent, CNN reported.
