A woman noticed the smell of burning hair from her vents and was later shocked when she heard meowing coming from under the hood.
Sarah Ann Stevens drove from Chewelah, Washington, to a Costco in Spokane when she made a startling discovery. According to KREM, Stevens said her stomach dropped when she opened up the hood to find a cat stuck behind her engine.
"I was crying at this point because I felt so awful," Stevens told KREM.
Stevens identified "Thomas" as a cat from her home.
Good Samaritans at Costco provided tools to help Stevens free the cat. Once extricated from the engine compartment, Thomas curled up in Stevens' arms.
"He grew up in the country. He likes to be outside and inside cat. I think he really likes out buildings which is the reason why he might have ended up in my vehicle," Stevens told KREM.
The cat has a scratch on his nose and a small burn.
Stevens is reportedly now looking for a new home for Thomas and has asked for anyone interested to contact her on Facebook.
