Salvador Alvarenga survived more than a year lost at sea.
Now, he is being sued for $1 million by the family of his dead fishing partner.
Alvarenga and Ezequiel Cordoba were on a two-day fishing trip along the Mexican coast in November 2012 when a storm washed their supplies overboard and knocked out the boat's communication systems.
According to Alvarenga, Cordoba freaked out and attempted to throw himself overboard, the National Post reported.
Several months later, Cordoba died. Alvarenga claimed he kept the corpse for about a week, talking to it until he realized what he was doing was unacceptable and tossed it overboard.
Alvarenga recently authored a book about the experience called "438 Days," and Cordoba's family isn't happy.
They accuse Alvarenga of eating their loved one.
“I believe that this demand is part of the pressure from this family to divide the proceeds of royalties,” said Ricardo Cucalon, Alvarenga’s lawyer.
Cucalon said Alvarenga has consistently rejected the idea that he consumed Cordoba.
