A car registered to New England Patriots player Brandon Spikes was found abandoned on the highway early Sunday, according to Massachusetts State Police.
At around 3:30 a.m., state troopers responded to a report of a car in the median strip of the highway on I-495 in Foxborough. Upon arrival, police say a representative from the in-vehicle system OnStar told state police the driver of the car reported hitting a deer. On the scene, police found an unattended 2011 Maybach, registered to Spikes, with front end damage.
Troopers did not find a driver at the scene.
No deer was found near the scene, Mass. State Police Spokesperson David Procopio said.
"We are aware of the report and are looking into the matter," a spokesperson for the Patriots said Sunday evening.
Additionally, at around the same time in the same area of 495 north, a 2009 Nissan Murano was reported hit. Procopio said the occupants reported being rear-ended by a car they did not see. Police took the SUV's three occupants, a 51-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman, and a 12-year-old boy to the hospital to be examined and treated for minor injuries.
State police continue to investigate both incidents, including who was driving the Maybach and what car struck the Murano, and if there is any connection to the two.
