A California woman and her family are making headlines after they turned some heartbreaking news into an unforgettable act of kindness.

According to KCRA in Sacramento, Kari Duane was shocked when she learned that her daughter, 27-year-old Quinn, would not be getting married this weekend because the groom had backed out of the wedding. But instead of canceling the $35,000 event entirely, Quinn and her family decided to invite the homeless community to the reception hall for a free, lavish meal.

"It just seemed like, of course, this would be something that we would do to give back," Kari Duane told KCRA.

On Saturday, dozens of homeless people and their families came to Sacramento's Citizen Hotel to enjoy the salmon, gnocchi, tri-tip and other fare originally intended for the 120 wedding guests.

"To lose out on something so important to yourself and then give it to someone else is really giving, really kind," Erika Craycraft, who attended the banquet with her husband and children, told KCRA.
