Emergency crews worked for nearly six hours Sunday to free a 4-year old boy whose hand became stuck in a vending machine in Melbourne, Australia.

It was the first time that Leo Shorthouse had seen a vending machine his parents said.

"He was a bit inquisitive and saw the Oreos and other biscuits," the boy's father, Aaron Shorthouse, told 7 News. "He put his hand inside the vending machine, but he is good now."

It took emergency crews a long time to dislodge the boy's hand because it was so far inside the machine, according to 7 News. The child's hand was stuck in the anti-theft mechanism.

"His mother and father are on scene and the rescue is proving to be delicate," according to a release from the Melbourne Fire Brigade.

Leo was sedated and distracted with cellphones while crews used angle grinders to disassemble the machine, according to the BBC.

The family was on vacation from their home in Arnhem Land, a remote area in the Northern Territory.
