In a statement to The Washington Post, Tchividjian said that he discovered his wife was having an affair a few months ago. While he was on a leave of absence from his church, he ended up finding "comfort in a friend and developed an inappropriate relationship myself."
NBC News reported that no successor has been named.
Tchividjian founded Liberate, an evangelical ministry that, according to NBC News, focuses on God's grace and the forgiveness of sin.
