Bernie Sanders 'put a bird on it' in Portland

During a rally in Portland, Oregon, today Bernie Sanders was greeted by an unexpected guest.

A bird landed on his podium.

While Bernie was speaking he acknowledged the bird, which was on the ground next to him.

"This little bird doesn't know it..." Bernie said.

Before he could finish, the bird flew up on the lectern and the crowd noticed.

Perhaps the excitement came from the connection to a funny scene in a 2011 episode "Portlandia."

In the first episode of the comedy series, the city poked fun at it's hipster culture by putting a bird on things to make it better.

The moment was caught by Twitter too.
