Consumer goods company Unilever is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of two products from its brand Ben & Jerry's out of an abundance of caution.
The recall, issued Monday, is because the products may inadvertently contain tree nuts, including almonds, Brazil nuts and hazelnuts that are not declared in the ingredient list or allergy information list. According to Unilever, the issue came from an error from one of its nut suppliers, but the situation has been remedied.
Both products have messaging on the packages that say “contains walnuts” and a “may contain other tree nuts.” The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is aware of the limited voluntary recall. None of the affected products were shipped outside of the U.S.
"The affected Chunky Monkey pints were distributed nationwide and reached consumers through retail stores. The affected Coconut Seven Layer Bar bulk products were distributed nationwide and reached consumers through wholesale and scoop shops," Unilever said in a news release.
No other Ben & Jerry’s products are affected by the recall. Unilever has not gotten reports of illness related to the product.
