More details on what happened to a 2-year-old Boston girl investigators dubbed "Baby Doe" were released in court on Monday as the girl's mother and her mother's boyfriend appeared in court for arraignment.

Thirty-five-year-old Michael McCarthy is charged with killing Bella Bond, the daughter of his live-in girlfriend. Bella's mother, 40-year-old Rachelle Bond, is charged as an accessory after the fact. They were charged Friday after investigators got a tip in the 3-month-old case.

McCarthy and Bond have both pleaded not guilty.

In court, Assistant District Attorney David Deakin revealed further details of Bella's murder. The ADA said Bond told police that McCarthy believed Bella was possessed by demons. A friend of Bond's said that Bond and McCarthy once locked Bella in a closet for 30 minutes.

The ADA said that one night McCarthy went into Bella's room when she was fussing before bedtime.

The prosecutor says Bond went into the room later and found Bella's face swollen and gray. Bond told police that McCarthy said it was Bella's time to die.

According to the ADA, Bella's body was kept in the refrigerator before being weighted down and dumped into the Harbor in South Boston.

At one point during the court proceeding, Bella's godmother was escorted out of court after screaming "I hope you rot in hell" to McCarthy.

McCarthy was held without bail. Bond was held on $1 million bail.

Bella Bond's biological father, Joe Amoroso, was in court for the arraignment on Monday morning. He told reporters that he was there to "carry out the story of Bella's life."

Bond and McCarthy are due back in court on October 20.
