Sgt. Pepper may have taught the band to play, but one member of the band took the stage to help one of his friends.

Ringo Starr climbed behind a drum kit to give a beat to Paul McCartney's appearance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles Saturday night, CNN reported.

The duo performed two Beatles iconic hits -- "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)" and "Helter Skelter."

Some fans were emotional for being able to experience the two surviving Beatles take the stage together. CNN reported that some actually teared up seeing the performance.

Thanks to social media and the abundance of cellphones, those who weren't at the concert were able to see the performance.

McCartney and Starr have teamed up a few times over the years. In 2014 they took the stage together at the Grammy Awards, CNN reported.

McCartney was playing Dodger Stadium as part of his Freshen Up tour. The concert was the final date in a tour that started in May in New Orleans, Variety reported.

Starr is touring again as well, with dates across the U.S. until September.

Variety reported that Starr and his wife Barbara Bach were in attendance at the concert before he took the stage, but left their VIP seats about halfway through the show.
