Thrill seeker Alexander Polli, a skydiver and pioneering BASE jumper, died Monday in a wingsuit accident in the French Alps. He was 31.
Polli crashed into a tree while jumping in the Couloir Ensa, according to NBC News.
"It's a location where there are a lot of accidents," a PGHM mountain rescuer told NBC News.
Polli was known for his acrobatic and cinematic stunts. His videos have millions of views on YouTube.
One of Polli's most famous fetes has him jump from a helicopter, reaching speeds of 155 mph as he maneuvers through a narrow mountain formation known as the "Batman Cave."
The World Wingsuit League called Polli's death a huge loss for the community.
"Alex was known for his hard-core proximity lines and that legacy continues to inspire new generations of jumpers for years to come," they said in a statement on Facebook. "Besides jumping, friends from all around the world are going to miss his free-spirit energy and contagious laughter."
