Former President Barack Obama has shared his list of his favorite books, movies and songs he enjoyed in the past year.
“As 2018 draws to a close, I’m continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists. It gives me a moment to pause and reflect on the year through the books, movies, and music that I found most thought-provoking, inspiring, or just plain loved,” he said in a Friday Facebook post. “It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers – some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before. Here’s my best of 2018 list - I hope you enjoy reading, watching, and listening.”
Among his favorite books are “Arthur Ashe: A Life by Raymond Arsenault,” “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones, “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe and of course “Becoming,” by former first lady and 44’s wife, Michelle Obama. The latter three appeared on Obama’s list of favorites earlier in the year.
Obama’s favorite movies included “Black Panther,” “If Beale Street Could Talk” and “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”.
The former president continued to demonstrate his varying taste in music. His favorite songs of the year include singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile’s “Every Time I Hear That Song” and alternative/indie songs “Need A Little Time” by Courtney Barnett and “Wait by the River” by Lord Huron. Mainstream music includes “Love Lies” by Khalid & Normani, Cardi B’s “I Like It” and “Ape(expletive) by Beyonce and Jay-Z, billed as The Carters from their joint album.
